People,

Phillip Ruddock bites back - BUT - how LOW can he go ?

>From the Sydney Morning Herald; Criminals and asylum seekers released from detention pending a final court decision were a serious risk to the Australian community, Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock said today, announcing moves to make the law tougher.

At least 20 people had been released from mandatory detention due to temporary court rulings ahead of a final decision.

But Mr Ruddock said about half of them were of significant character concern, and today he moved to amend the law so that unlawful non-citizens remain detained until their status was determined.

This outrageous attempt to demonise and raise fear in the community must be challenged !

Dear All,

Please find attached a flyer for an event in Austinmer (South Coast of New South Wales). I'm planning to reduce my public speaking engagements on completion of my pending lectures in the different universities within a month or so. This event is, in fact, an invitation to my friends and colleagues to catch up with me in the beautiful Austinmer as I'll be away from the practical advocacy and campaign for the rest of the year.

I look forward to catch up with whoever you can make it to Austinmer on 26 June 2003.

Best wishes,

Maqsood A K Alshams
