IDF Activity in Nablus
IDF Activity in Nablus
IDF forces began operating late last night in the Nablus area.
In an effort to thwart terrorist attacks planned to emanate from the area, IDF forces carried out searches and arrests.
Last night, during the above-mentioned operation, Palestinian gunmen opened fire towards IDF forces. No injuries to IDF forces were reported.
It should be noted that the city of Nablus serves as a center that directs and facilitates terrorist activity throughout the Samaria region (directives, knowledge, establishing an infrastructure and transport of suicide bombers).
Two of the suicide bombings that occurred last week originated from the city of Nablus: the August 12, 2003, attack in Rosh Ha'ayin -- which killed one Israeli civilian and injured an additional nine; and the Ariel attack -- which killed one Israeli civilian and injured three others.
The above-mentioned terror attacks, as well as the August 19, 2003, murderous suicide attack in Jerusalem, (which killed 20 Israeli civilians and wounded more than 130 others), illustrates the need for direct and thorough action against active terrorist cells in Palestinian cities.
The IDF will continue to operate to
thwart terrorist activities areas under its responsibility,
just as it expects the Palestinian Authority to operate
against terrorism in areas under its
responsibility.
