Refusniks Sentenced To 12 Months Imprisonment


Sentencing in the Trial of the Five Soldiers Refusing to Serve in the IDF

On (Jan 4th 2004), the district military court sentenced five IDF soldiers convicted on Dec. 16, 2003, of refusing to serve in the IDF to12 months imprisonment. The five were convicted on the charge of refusal to carry out an order.

The court found that the main motive behind their refusing to serve is political/ideological and not on grounds of conscience.

The court unanimously ruled that the soldiers' actions undermined the legitimacy of Israel's actions, and as such were unacceptable.
