New Zealand Ship Building Announcement Welcomed
Defence Minister Robert Hill welcomed the New Zealand Government's decision to select Australian company Tenix Defence Pty Ltd as the preferred tenderer for a NZ$500 million New Zealand ship building project, known as Project Protector.
Tenix has been chosen as the preferred tenderer to supply the Royal New Zealand Navy with a multi-role vessel, capable of undertaking such tasks as tactical sealift and disaster relief, and in-shore and off-shore vessels to meet New Zealand's surface patrol requirements.
Senator Hill congratulated Tenix on being selected and said this provided further evidence of the strengthening of the Australian and New Zealand Defence and industry relationship that had been established through the ANZAC Ship Project, which has been one of Australia's largest and most successful Defence projects.
He said that Tenix's selection as preferred tenderer provided an excellent opportunity to leverage off the significant skills generated by the company during its stewardship of the ANZAC project. Senator Hill said he looked forward to the successful conclusion of contract negotiations between New Zealand and Tenix.
