INFORMATION and CALL for ACTION
Tali Fahima was arrested on Monday, 9th August around noon, in Einav roadblock (SE of Tulkarm, West Bank) and was brought on Tuesday to a hearing before judge Lev-On in Petah-Tikva, in order to extend her detention, according to the request of the General security Service (GSS, AKA Shabak, AKA Shin Bet).
The Shabak claims that she is suspected of conspiracy of terror attack, and poses a security threat to the state and the public. Following secretive inquiry material, some of it recent, the judge decided to extend her detention for nine (9) more days for interrogation. The decision was reasoned by fear of rendering disorder in the inquiry and fleeing the inquiry.
Ten days before that, Tali received a phone call from a Shabak agent that was involved in her previous detention and inquiry, an inquiry and detention which had finished in void. He asked to meet her, informally, and mentioned that he knows she has difficulty finding a job. Tali was fired from her previous work because of her political activity a few months ago, and indeed since then finds it difficult to find a job and meanwhile she stays at relatives and friends. Following the advice of her lawyers, she refused to meet him, and insisted that the Shabak will get a warrant if he thinks further inquiry is needed. Tali was interrogated on Monday after her arrest, a fact that was omitted from the report the Shabak handed the court on Tuesday.
Tali’s lawyers, adv. Gabby Lasky and Smadar Ben-Natan were not allowed, as is done in these state security cases, to study the secret interrogation material. In the hearing adv. Ben Natan claimed that had the Shabak indeed suspected that Tali Fahima is a security threat, it would not wait for her to enter the 1967 occupied territories to arrest her, but would arrest her as soon as possible within the green line.
The picture is clear - her refusal to collaborate with the Shabak as an informer, or withdraw from her political stance exposes her to grave political harassment. The series of harassments by the security apparatuses, accompanied by hostile media, cause Tali tremendous damage and prevent her from continuing with her initial goal - to serve as a bridge between the peoples, to overcome hatred and hostility, and help the residents of the destroyed West Bank town of Jenin. That is Tali’s most serious crime, for which she is about to pay a high price.
