TEAR Fund New Zealand addressing floods in The Philippines

TEAR Fund New Zealand is working to assist those affected by severe flooding and mudslides in The Philippines.

The Philippine's Luzon region has been devastated by four typhoons in the past two weeks. Flooding and mudslides have killed over 1000 people. This number is expected to increase, as access to many areas is still not possible.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, over 100,000 people have been evacuated, with many more families in need of immediate aid. Erosion caused by legal and illegal logging has been blamed for worsening the impact of the storms.

"As the flooding recedes, the greatest danger will be the spread of disease and a shortage of safe drinking water," says TEAR Fund Microenterprise Manager Richard Barter.

Operating through partner agency ASKI, TEAR Fund is providing relief to those in the Luzon region of The Philippines.

TEAR Fund is providing food materials, utensils, hygiene kits, water purification tablets and temporary shelter to affected families.
