BLOOMSBURY ANNOUNCE GLOBAL BOOK AID FOR
TSUNAMI FUND
In an unprecedented publishing move, the world’s leading writers are coming together to publish the first chapters of their new work in a single volume entitled New Beginnings. The book will be published in the US, UK, Germany, Australia and New Zealand in March. Overseas proceeds will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee fund and money raised in Australia and New Zealand will go to Oxfam. Authors who have already agreed to take part include:
Alexander McCall Smith Nicholas Evans
Ian McEwan Nick Hornby
Maeve Binchy Paulo Coelho
Margaret Atwood Stephen King
Mark Haddon Tracy Chevalier
(further high profile authors to be announced)
Jonny Geller, the Project Manager (and Managing Director of Curtis Brown Agency), approached Nigel Newton, CEO of Bloomsbury with the idea on Tuesday and Nigel Newton agreed on the spot to offer the resources of their entire publishing arm for this global publication.
Jonny Geller:
“I hope New Beginnings will be a must-buy for any book-lover. To glimpse the opening chapter of your favourite author’s new work before it is published will be an unprecedented experience for their fans. These incredibly generous authors showcase what is great in modern writing today. There should be something for everybody in this collection.”
Nigel Newton:
“The Tsunami has devastated so many lives and by publishing this book we hope that a significant amount of money will be raised by the book trade to help bring about reconstruction of the lives of those in the twelve countries affected by the disaster.”
