CHINESE TV COMPANY THREATENS TO SUE FIJI GOVERNMENT
SUVA (MN/FL/Pacific Media Watch): Chinese company Fu Shun Television has threatened to sue the Fiji Government for failing to honour its promise of a television licence.
Fu Shun director Zhang Bei Yan claims it has broken the law by reneging on its word.
"If we are incompatible with the requirement of the Government, why did the Government approve Fu Shun TV?" Yan asked.
Yan said the Fiji Government has been delaying action on the Chinese television company's application for three years.
Information Minister Dr Ahmed Ali says he has already advised Zhang on the status of their application.
"My position remains constant. I've advised him that Cabinet will look at all the applications according to the criteria that has been established and he has been informed," Ali said.
"I've also indicated to him that the
decision is a collective one although he kept pressing me
that it is the minister's task to give one. No matter what
pressures he put my position is the same - I have to wait,
till we have evaluated all the applications in the media
subcommittee in Cabinet and then go on to cabinet for a
decision."
