China: US-Japan Security Consultative Committee
Spokesperson's Remarks on the meeting of the US-Japan Security Consultative Committee
Q: The US and Japan
held a meeting of the US-Japan Security Consultative
Committee in Washington on 19th, and delivered a joint
statement, which advocated to solve the Taiwan Straits
conflict through peaceful dialogue and asked China to be
more transparent in military terms. They regarded these
issues as their common strategic goal in Asian Pacific
region. What is China's comment?
A: We are much concerned about this issue.
The US-Japan Military alliance is a mutual arrangement made in a special historical condition, which should not overstep the bilateral category. The above statement covers the Taiwan problem, which is related to China's national sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security, so the Chinese government and Chinese people are firmly against it.
To seek peace and development and promote cooperation are general trends and expectations of peoples around the world. We hope the United States and Japan take full consideration of the interests and concerns of other countries in this region and do more things beneficial to the peace and stability of the whole region. We hope the United States and Japan keep their promise on the Taiwan issue through concrete activities.
China pursues an independent and peaceful foreign policy and a national defense policy with a defensive nature. We will unswervingly adhere to the road of peace and development. China is a positive strength of safeguarding the world peace and promoting common development. It is untenable for anyone to arbitrarily make any irresponsible remarks on China's national defense construction aimed at safeguarding national security and territorial integrity.
