Belgrade Demands UN Restore Serb Convoy Escorts

Belgrade Demands UN Restore Escorts For Serb Convoys - UNMIK urged to arrest murderers of Serb youths

Belgrade – The Serbian parliament’s committee on Kosovo-Metohija has harshly condemned the terrorist attack on Serb youths – the killing of Ivan Dejanovic and Aleksandar Stankovic and the wounding of Nikola Dukic and Aleksandar Janicijevic.

According to a statement from the closed session, called by Parliament Speaker Predrag Markovic, the committee has demanded that UNMIK perform an urgent investigation and discover the perpetrators and masterminds.

Since the arrival of international forces in Kosovo-Metohija’s territory, 35 Serbs have been murdered in the municipality of Lipljan alone and nobody has answered for these crimes to date. By not bringing the criminals to justice, international representatives are in effect encouraging crime and lawlessness, according to the parliamentary committee.

The committee also demanded that UNMIK restore escorts for all Serb convoys in all Serb enclaves as well as checkpoints, given that the scrapping of escorts and checkpoints has worsened the already poor security for Serbs on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija.

Lack of readiness for true decentralisation, the security conditions, as well as the latest terrorist act in Strpce show that Kosovo-Metohija’s provisional institutions are far away from the achievement of standards, the committee concluded.
