The Botswana Consul-General, jointly with the North West Government, has arranged a number of celebratory events with regard to Botswana Independence Day's 39th anniversary.
The two events in the form of a gala dinner and cultural festival will take place this weekend at the Mmabana Foundation. The Botswana Consulate Office in Johannesburg, among others, is mandated with ensuring closer collaboration of people contact and fostering good relations between South Africa and Botswana. The Office also ensures closer co-operation and cultural exchanges between the two countries, hence the inclusion of traditional dance troupes during the independence celebration in North West Province, Mafikeng.
The traditional groups participating at the cultural event are Botswana-Ditholwana Cultural Group as well as Mmabana Traditional Dancers. The event is scheduled for 1 October 2005 starting at 12:00 at Mmabana Auditorium, Mmabatho. A minimum donation of R10 would be requested at the entrance. The donation will go towards assisting the cultural groups with funding.
"The relationship with have with Botswana need to be sustained hence our support for this event. Let's join hands and support our cultures so as to sustain our heritage," says Premier Edna Molewa.
