Aust: Man allegedly brought 7 Solomon Islanders in
Man charged with Migration Act offences
A nine month AFP investigation into a 58-year-old Cairns man who allegedly brought seven Solomon Islanders into Australia illegally culminated in his arrest and court appearance today.
Cairns Magistrates Court granted the man bail today and he is due to appear again on October 26.
The man has been charged with two counts of the Migration Act 1958: Section 233 A (1) present false information for five or more non-citizens to gain entry into Australia; and Section 233A (1) present false information during immigration clearance for five or more non-citizens to gain entry into Australia.
He also faced one charge from the Passports Act 1938 – Section 21 (4) – improper possession of a foreign travel document.
AFP Acting National Manager Border and International Network Frank Prendergast said the man’s arrest served as a serious warning to those who committed such crimes.
“The AFP has successfully prosecuted a number of people who have broken these laws and investigations into these crimes will be vigorously pursued,” Mr Prendergast said.
