Record sales world wide

Land Rover has had its best ever quarter of sales world wide to the end of March this year.

That performance has been reflected in New Zealand, where for the first three months of the year dealers sold 171 Land Rovers, compared to 100 last year.

Demand for the Range Rover Sport continues to exceed supply.

Land Rover's storming start to 2006 continued in March with the company's best-ever single month's performance in its history and third successive record-breaking month overall. This also marked the best quarter for the UK based 4x4 specialist and most successful sales spell since Land Rover was acquired by Ford in 2000.

During March Land Rover sold 23,453 vehicles globally, a 23% rise on the previous year. This worldwide success particularly includes huge gains in:

- North America - up 39%

- China - up 619%

- Russia - up 51%

- Sub Sahara Africa - up 93%

- Middle East & North Africa - up 84%

- Argentina - up 30%

- Australia - up 27%

Range Rover Sport continued to lead the sales success and is now the company's best-selling model, with nearly 15,000 sold world wide this year so far. The Range Rover achieved its best-ever March and quarter in the United States, helping push up Land Rover sales there by 34% for the year to date.

Matthew Taylor, Land Rover's Managing Director, said, "At Land Rover we pride ourselves on our authenticity, making genuine 4x4s fit for a purpose. These fantastic sales figures demonstrate that, more than ever, customers want the breadth of capability that only a Land Rover can provide."

So far this year, Land Rover has notched up successive record sales in each of the first three months and the first quarter is 23.5% ahead of the same period in 2005, a year which provided the company's best sales total since it began production in 1948.

"Land Rover is able to offer a unique combination of qualities and capabilities in an unparalleled range of vehicles that clearly deliver what customers want," said Wallis Dumper, the Managing Director of Motorcorp Distributors, the New Zealand importer of Land Rover.

Internationally it's the best continuous sales period since Land Rover was acquired by the Ford Motor Company in 2000. Since then Ford has made significant investment in revitalising the entire Land Rover model line up. A fifth nameplate, Range Rover Sport, has been added and the model overhaul will be completed later this year with the introduction of an all-new Freelander.
