Walk across the Nullarbor for Indigenous Rights

Women in Black: Media Alert

Walk across the Nullarbor for Indigenous Rights

Parliament House Press Conference

Where: Committee room 2S2
When: 9:45am, Tuesday 8 August 2006
Why: “Women in Black on Whitefella Business”

Pam Morris and Jane Paterson, two women in their seventies from Perth ‘Women In Black’, feel so strongly about the effects of white racism in Australia on Indigenous Australians that they have walked over the Nullarbor plain to bring that message to Federal Politicians.

Signatures have been gathered for a letter to the Prime Minister and Indigenous Affairs Minister Mal Brough, which they hope to be able to present this week.

It has been devastating to hear on arrival in Canberra, of the proposed amendments to the Land Rights Act which will further damage Indigenous rights in the Northern Territory for the next hundred years.

This is a further example of white racism in action.
