Solomon Islands Delegation Visits Various Tuna Cannaries And Fisheries Industry In Papua New Guinea
Finance and Treasury Minister, Hon Gordon Darcy Lilo, is a leading a high-level delegation comprising of Government Ministers, Parliamentarians and Senior Government Officials to visit various Tuna Canaries and Fisheries Industries in Papua New Guinea.
The delegation left Honiara this morning for Port Moresby and will be in Papua New Guinea for a week.
The delegation’s visit is being coordinated by the Solomon Islands High Commission Office in Port Moresby and the Papua New Guinea National Fisheries Authority.
The Solomon Islands High Office in Port Moresby said while in Papua New Guinea, the delegation will visit the Frebelle Fisheries Cannery in Lae where they will meet with officials and inspect the Tuna Canary. They will also travel on to Madang to visit the RD Tuna Canary, one of the largest in Papua New Guinea.
The Minister and his delegation will also visit the South Seas Tuna Cooperation Canary in Wewak .
The purpose of the visit is to see the development of the Tuna and fisheries industry in Papua New Guinea, which Solomon Islands is interested to pursue.
The delegation will travel back to Port Moresby on Thursday 5 April 2007 where they will meet officials from the Papua New Guinea Government as well as the National Fisheries Authority.
Meanwhile, the other delegation led by the Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister, Hon Leni will arrive back in Port Moresby on Manila on Thursday 5 April 2007 where they will join the Finance Minister’s delegation in Port Moresby to continue on with their Papua New Guinea leg of the visit.
The delegation returns to Solomon Islands on Friday 6 April 2007
