74% of No Mass Shootings: Anti-gun Lobby Must Explain
Australian gun prohibitionists’ claim that “since 1997, 74 per cent of massacres in Australia and New Zealand have been committed by licensed gun owners” is patently false, say the International Coalition for Women in Shooting and Hunting (WiSH).
“The simple fact is that there has not been a mass shooting with mass fatalities in either Australia or New Zealand for over a decade,” said WiSH Chair Dr Samara McPhedran.
“Anti-gun lobbyists have not only arrived at the figure of 74 per cent of none, but more importantly they must also explain why New Zealand has not had a mass shooting in ten years.”
“Unlike Australia, New Zealand’s licensed firearms owners may still use, for target shooting and hunting, the types of firearms banned in Australia in 1996.”
Dr McPhedran noted “Gun prohibitionists insist the bans and half-billion dollar taxpayer funded buyback were necessary to prevent massacres, so they now need to work out how Australia’s bans magically reached across the Tasman to prevent firearm massacres in New Zealand, as well as how we can prevent non-firearm massacres.”
