PM to hold weekly press briefings

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare will introduce weekly media conferences to ensure the nation is well informed on government decisions, policies and programs.

He said his proposed weekly media conferences would give him the opportunity to explain to the nation government decisions and policies and thus dispel any misunderstanding that might exist.

The Prime Minister said he believed that the media was a powerful tool for the dissemination of information which could be utilised to keep the nation informed on government policies.

The weekly conferences will also give members of the local and international media the opportunity to ask questions on issues of current interest to their audiences or readers.

At the same time, it would reinforce his government’s strong belief in transparency and accountability.
