Tributes to Antonio (Tony) Scriva
RAMSI Special Coordinator Tim George today thanked Solomon Islanders for their support and condolences regarding the tragic death of an Australian adviser last Sunday.
Mr George said colleagues and friends were heartened at the level of support offered by Solomon Islanders following the untimely death of 26-year old Antonio (Tony) Scriva in a car accident on Sunday evening.
“Tony Scriva was a very valued member of RAMSI’s civilian program who worked in the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) as part of the partnership with the Solomon Islands Government to strengthen government systems and processes,” Mr George said.
“He not only made an impact through his work in the OAG, but also through his links across RAMSI and his friendships with Solomon Islanders.”
Mr Scriva was an Audit Adviser in the Office of the Auditor General for more than 18 months. He was working with a team of recently recruited young auditors helping develop their skills in the audit of government finances.
Mr George said Tony had played an instrumental role in the redevelopment of the Public Accounts Committee of the National Parliament, leading to better scrutiny of public finances.
The Special Coordinator thanked Solomon Islands Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare for his condolences to the family and friends.
In a letter to the Special Coordinator, the Prime Minister conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Government of Solomon Islands, describing Mr Scriva as a committed and devoted adviser whose contribution to transparency, accountability and good governance would be greatly missed.
The Auditor General, Floyd Augustine Fatai, said he and the staff were deeply saddened by the passing away of Tony Scriva.
“Antonio Scriva was not only a work colleague but also like a brother to us,” Mr Fatai said.
“His contribution to the Government and the people of Solomon Islands through the outstanding and exemplary work done during his deployment to this office is immeasurable and for this, the people of this nation are indebted to him.”
