Fono Cautioned On Megaphone Politics
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has cautioned Opposition Leader Fred Fono to learn from the experience of all his follies in using megaphone politics to attack and unseat the Grand Coalition for Change government during the past year.
“Since his return from Canberra, Mr Fono has again shown his true colours by echoing Australia’s demands for the extradition of our Attorney General Julian Moti with utter disregard for the operation of our established laws and procedures.”
“We must refrain from prejudicial commentary while the High Court and the Public Service Commission are dealing with Moti’s suspension case. Mr Fono might care to demonstrate his concern for compliance with the laws of Solomon Islands by inspecting the publicly-accessible records of the High Court Registry to acquaint himself with the facts and reconsider his criticisms of both Moti and my Government’s resolute stance on that issue.”
As regards the Australian Government’s formal request for Moti’s extradition, PM Sogavare confirmed that since its receipt in mid-December last year it was tasked to the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs and the Acting General for processing under the requirements and procedures of our Extradition Act and other relevant laws.
“The Acting Attorney General is scheduled to fly to Canberra this weekend for appointments with responsible Australian authorities to address and resolve matters of mutual concern. Provided he can respect legal and political sensitivities, Mr Fono is encouraged to consult the Acting Attorney General upon her return from that assignment. I expect Mr Fono will abandon his megaphonic resistance to what we are doing when he finds out the true facts concerning Australia’s orchestration of the Moti Affair,” the Prime Minister said.
