Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has described the call for his resignation over the Julian Moti saga by the Opposition MP, Edward Huni’ehu as ridiculous.
Mr Sogavare said the reasons for Mr Huni’ehu’s call were a total mockery of the laws of-democracy and the principles of good governance he claimed to represent.
He said it was sad that those who have spoken out against the Government’s planned reinstatement of Mr Moti as Solomon Islands Attorney General had deliberately refused to acknowledge the facts surrounding his suspension.
The Prime Minister said Australia’s extradition attempts against Moti was a blatant disregard of international laws as the Vanuatu judiciary had cleared him off the child sex allegations that the Australian Government decided to resurrect after he was appointed Attorney General to the Solomon Islands nine years later.
Mr Sogavare said Mr Huni’ehu and those who share the same view should question Canberra for the complexities surrounding Mr Moti’s reinstatement.
“I believe there is a case for charges against those responsible for this legal calamity, which amount to conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and conspiracy to falsely indict an innocent person in support of a political agenda,” he said.
The Prime Minister also said that donors should not use funding to exert undue influence over the Solomon Islands.
He said the Government was committed to accomplishing its bottom-up approach development policy as a priority and called on Mr Huni’ehu for his support in realizing this initiative for the benefit of the Country.
