National Independence Committee Impressed With Independence Preparations In Auki

The National Independence Committee has expressed satisfaction over preparations for this year’s 29 Anniversary Independence Celebration in Auki Malaita Province.

The committee which traveled to Auki over the weekend held a consultation meeting with the Malaita Independence Committee on Friday and was given all necessary updates and the progress of the current ground work.

The team also paid site visits to the Aligegeo Stadium which will host the 29 Anniversary Independence Celebrations and other venues for the 2007 National Trade and Cultural Show.

According Deputy Provincial Secretary of Malaita Province, Robert Kaua the stadium will be fully renovated with additional sitting spaces for top officials including the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Nathaniel Waena, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and members of diplomatic missions.

Parade arrangements for police platoons and traditional dancing troupes are also being set up.

Kaua said the stadium refurbishment and ground improvement is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Police are also working closely with surrounding communities in a major campaign to reduce the production of illegal homebrew – Kwaso.

Auki police have assured the rest of Solomon Islands that security is not a problem and encouraged visitors to Malaita to enjoy the independence celebration in the spirit of unity and peace.

Meanwhile, chairman of the national independence committee Solomon Palusi said his team is satisfied with current preparations and anticipates a huge turn out and successful celebrations.

Mr Palusi said the celebration venue is ideal and he hoped guests and the general public will appreciate the efforts put up by both the national and provincial independence committees.

The Committees expected Aligegeo Stadium to provide a forty thousand seating capacity during the Independence celebration.

Auki Township is also undergoing total refurbishment as ground work on three separate venues for the 2007 National Trade and Cultural Show continue to progress.
