Survival Launches Raffle For Uncontacted Tribes
Survival launches raffle for uncontacted tribes
Over one hundred tribes around the world choose to reject contact with outsiders. They are the most vulnerable people on the planet. Survival is launching its 2007 raffle in support of the recognition of uncontacted tribes’ land rights – the real key to their survival.
The Imaginative Traveller has generously donated the first prize of a fantastic 8-day holiday for two to Jordan. The Imaginative Traveller is committed to sustainable tourism; it promotes responsible travel to ensure that it is a positive experience for all - people, place and the environment.
Last year, Survival raised thousands of pounds by selling our tickets. We have used these vital funds to press the Brazilian government to protect the land of the Enawene Nawe Indians, to keep the international media informed and to give as much support as possible to the Indians themselves.
We have also produced a short film which gives a unique insight into the life of the Enawene Nawe, highlighting the acute problems they currently face. We have been able to print and distribute thousands of additional copies of our urgent action bulletin informing the public of the threats to the Enawene Nawe and calling them to action.
Survival's director Stephen Corry said today, 'Of all the recently contacted Amazonian tribes, the Enawene Nawe are now one of the most empowered. Thanks to the thousands of pounds raised in last year's raffle, many more people around the world have been made aware of their struggle.'
