ADF Long Tan Leadership And Teamwork Awards: Record Participation For 2007

Chief of the Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston has applauded the increasing numbers of secondary schools across Australia that have chosen to participate in the Australian Defence Force Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards for 2007.

The highly successful awards program launched last year rewards and highlights the achievements of young leaders in years 10, 11 and 12. This year an astounding 1922 schools nationwide are participating. The three winning students from each school will be awarded up to $500 and a certificate.

Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston said it was very pleasing to see the increasing number of secondary schools which have embraced the program this year.

“The Australian Defence Force has an ongoing commitment to encouraging leadership and teamwork as integral elements of personal development and community spirit. We are thrilled that so many schools have recognised the tremendous value of this program,” Air Chief Marshal Houston said.

“We are sure that the Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork awards will continue to prosper given the enthusiastic response from secondary schools across Australia. The outstanding efforts of young Australians throughout the country should be both recognised and applauded,” he said.

Students in years 10, 11 and 12 will be recognised with awards of $100, $250 and $500 respectively, along with a certificate of merit. Participation in the awards is at the discretion of individual school principals.

Nominations for this year’s Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Awards close on 31 August, 2007.
