Malaita Premier Urges Careful Govt System Scrutiny
Malaita Premier Urges Careful Scrutiny On Federal Government System
The Malaita Provincial government has cautioned the people and government of Solomon Islands to thread carefully on the issue of State Government.
Malaita Premier Richard Na'amo Irosaea said the recent problems affecting the country stems from discontentment over the weakness of the Central Government system and highlights the need for greater reconciliation among people and provinces.
He said the process of national reconciliation must firstly and foremost involve all provinces in Solomon Islands and that for any meaningful reconciliation within the country to happen it must be based and founded on truth and honesty.
"The Malaita Provincial Government views the process of reconciliation as an important part of reuniting our country as one nation therefore any reconciliation must involve all provinces and not only the two main parties of the recent ethnic tension" said Premier Irosaea.
The Premier further emphasized that as a country it is important that we have to study and take into account the cost of these proposed systems of government and factually assess our capacity as a country to absorb the cost for now and into the future.
"We must not view the state system of government as an end to our financial constraints or social issues because that will surely be a gross miscalculation" he said.
He re-emphasized that Malaita Province is not against adopting the State Government System but that any government system proposed to be adopted must ensure that it leads to the improvement of livelihoods of the common majority of the people of Solomon Islands.
