Trooper Pearce's wife and two daughters were joined by family and friends, and by members of the 2nd /14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) the regiment in which David proudly served, and members of the 9th Battalion, The Royal Queensland Regiment (9RQR), with whom David served in the Army Reserve.

Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce, The Governor of Queensland; The Hon. John Howard MP, Prime Minister of Australia; Mr Kevin Rudd MP, Leader of the Opposition; The Hon. Dr Brendan Nelson MP, Minister for Defence; Mr Joel Fitzgibbon MP, Shadow Minister for Defence; The Hon. Paul Lucas MP, Deputy Premier of Queensland; Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, Chief of Defence Force; and Lieutenant General Peter Leahy, Chief of Army, were also on hand to pay their respects to the 41-year-old soldier.

During his military career Trooper Pearce saw operational service in the Solomon Islands on Operation Anode in 2005-2006, before being deployed to Afghanistan this year.

Trooper Pearce's coffin was carried into the Cathedral by a Bearer Party mounted by his mates from units he had served in during his military career. The Honour Guard was drawn from the 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, and the Attending Party was composed of members of 9RQR

At the conclusion of the service the bugler played the Last Post in tribute to his passing.
