The IOC Athletes' Commission was created in 1981. It serves as the link between the Olympic athletes and the IOC, acting as the athletes' voice within the Olympic Movement. The majority of the Commission's members (12 out of 19) have been elected by their peers within the period of the ongoing Olympic Games since 1996.
