OECD Economic Survey of the Netherlands

The OECD’s latest economic survey of the Netherlands, to be published on Thursday 31 January 2008, looks at the reforms needed to get more people participating in the workforce and improve immigration policy.

The survey will be available to journalists in English on the OECD's password-protected website at 11.00 Paris time (10.00 GMT) for immediate release.

A news conference on the survey will be presented by the Secretary-General of the OECD, Angel Gurría and the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Maria van der Hoeven, at 9.30 a.m. the same day at Nieuwspoort, Lange Poten 10, The Hague. A Policy Brief with the main conclusions of the survey will be freely accessible in pdf format (in English and French) on the OECD’s web site at www.oecd.org/eco/surveys/netherlands. You are invited to include this internet link in reports on the survey.

Among the questions investigated by the survey are:

• What are the main challenges to sustain growth?

• Should automatic stabilisers be allowed to play freely?

• Should the fiscal framework be strengthened further?

• How can the state pension system be made more sustainable?

• How can the effective labour supply be expanded?

• How can the economy benefit more from immigration?

Journalists will be allowed advance access to the electronic version of the publication, by e-mail and under embargo, four hours ahead of release time. For journalists in Asia/Pacific time zones such advance access is allowed 12 hours ahead of release time.

The study will be sent by e-mail on request only. In asking to receive the survey under embargo, journalists undertake to respect the OECD’s embargo procedures.
