Sir Nathaniel Encourages Youths To Involve In Environmental Programs

The Governor General Sir Nathanial Waena is encouraging youths in the country to recognize their talent and be accountable for the environment they live in.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the Commonwealth Day, Sir Nathaniel said the event brings youths of many Nations of the Commonwealth together to enjoy the special warmth of friendship between them.

Nathanial Waena said the theme of the 2008 Commonwealth Day which "Environment- Our Future" really set the key note to the worldwide chorus of human existence on the planet earth.

He said the Environment is God's creation that has been recorded in biblical record of the Book of Genesis by which God created human being to manage his entire environment on earth.

"On that male and female must take good care of the entire environment in and around them on earth,"

However he said mankind has become greedy and rather careless as a result of carelessness it has brought about serious damage to the environment.

"And the effect of this as we experienced now is the raised sea level which gives treat to most Islands Nation in the Pacific," he said.

He said in order to slow down the quick effect of global warming, youths must stand and recognized their talents and potential in order to sustain the very survival of the succeeding generation.

He said youths must be involved in environment training courses and further more youth must stand out on volunteer organisation to facilitate environmental awareness and educated people not only in the Solomon but also in the Region.

Sir Nathanial Waena said this year's theme should also be seen in the context of the various level of our community, national society and also in the regional community of the south pacific.

"Because environment is our hope for the future" he said.

Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua, Ministers and top government officials also attended the ceremony yesterday.
