Commonwealth Heads Discuss International Reforms

Commonwealth heads discuss world reforms

Gordon Brown and heads of Commonwealth nations have held talks in London on ways to reform international institutions such as the World Bank.

The mini-summit at Marlborough House this morning focused on international financial institutions, global environmental governance and the UN system. Participants also considered practical steps members could take in addressing the current high oil price and high commodity costs.

Yesterday the PM chaired talks in Downing Street with the Commonwealth Heads of Government before discussions continued at a dinner reception in Marlborough House, the Commonwealth's headquatrters.

The following Commonwealth leaders were present at the mini-summit:

* President Bharrat Jagdeo (Guyana),

* President Maumoon Gayoom (Maldives),

* Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam (Mauritius),

* President Mahinda Rajapaksa (Sri Lanka),

* President Jakaya Kikwete (United Republic of Tanzania),

* Prime Minister Dr Feleti Sevele (Tonga),

* Prime Minister Patrick Manning (Trinidad and Tobago),

* President Yoweri Museveni (Uganda)

* Prime Minister Gordon Brown (United Kingdom).

* Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, Malaysia

* Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Ghana
