e-Government: Fiji's New System To Allow Easy Access To Information

The e-Government project in Fiji will enhance businesses but most importantly allow government employees and citizens of Fiji to gain access to government information and services, says Mr Vassist Prasad, the Director for e-Government Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS).

Mr Prasad said technological changes are increasing rapidly over the globe and Fiji needs to adapt to these changing information technology trends.

He said the promotion of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) adoption by all customers in Fiji remains a top priority and the e-Government project would greatly benefit the customers in the country.

"The Fiji Electronic Government (e-Government) project provides an opportunity to take advantage of the increased productivity, reduced costs and improved customer responsiveness," he said.

Looking at the emerging markets and the increasing competition these days, Mr Prasad said ICT would also be an opportune tool to generate economic growth.

"Improved economic performance and competitiveness requires a fast and adaptable attitude to new approaches in the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) and this is what Fiji government is looking to do," he said.

Mr Prasad reiterated that the promotion of e-Government in Fiji would be a new service transformation for customer service.

"It will be customer friendly and will be defined as such by civil servants, citizens and business stakeholders. The most important factor for ITCS is to implement a new strategy for public sector service delivery through an electronic approach."

He said Fiji is committed to ensuring that all customers in Fiji will benefit from e-Government initiatives.

"To achieve the overall objective of using IT to provide customer-centric services, ITCS will pursue key priorities under the next wave of e-Government," Mr Prasad added.
