Fiji PM Commodore Bainimarama Arrives In Beijing
PM's Visit to the People's Republic of China - PM arrives in Beijing
Aug 11, 2008 - The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has arrived in Beijing together with his delegation including the Minister fot Education, Youth and Sports, Mr. Filipe Bole and senior Government officials. On arrival at Beijing Airport he was met by Fiji's Ambassador Sir James Ah Koy, Fiji Embassy staffs, Chinese Government Officials and 8eijing Olympic Organising Committee officials.
Today, Thursday 7th August 2008, the Prime Minister visited the Great Wall of China and then participated in Team Fiji Welcome Ceremony conducted by Mayor of the Olympic Village, Madame Chen Zhili, International Olympic Committee and the Beijing Olympic Organising Committee. The other countries which were welcomed with Team Fiji included, Guinea-Bissau. Monacco, Spain and Belarus. The Welcome Ceremony was spectacular and included the singing of national anthem, flag raising ceremony and exchange of gifts.
The Team Fiji officials and the athletes were overwhelmed by the participation of the Prime Minister and his Delegation in the Opening Ceremony.
Tomorrow Friday 8 August, the Fiji delegation led by the Commodore Bainimarama and Team Fiji would participate in the Opening Ceremony of the 29th Olympic Games. There are number of Heads of State/Government and Dignitaries from various participation countries in Beijing for thee Opening ceremony.
The Prime Minister is schedule to meet with Chinese Premier Hon. Wen Jiabao for a courtesy call and discussions on matters of mutual and bilateral interest during his Stay in Beijing. The Prime Minister will also host a Fiji Night function for the Chinese Investors, Businesses and Travel Agents with primary focus of promoting investment trade and tourism for Fiji on Sunday evening.
He will then travel to the South of China to visit an ethanol plant. a sugar mill manufacturing high quality paper waste to energy recycling plant and inspect low cost housing models prepared by Chinese companies that are interested in developing low cost housing in Fiji.
The Prime Minister and his Delegation will return to Fiji on Friday 15 of August 2008.
