Regional Assistance Mission, Solomon Islands
RAMSI is a Partnership between SI and Forum countries – PM
The Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua has reiterated the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands is a partnership between Solomon Islands and the participating Pacific Island Forum countries.
He made the reiteration in a function jointly hosted by the National Parliament and RAMSI September 6 in Honiara marking the fifth anniversary of the regional intervention forces.
Dr Sikua says the Government and RAMSI have formed a SIG-RAMSI Partnership Framework that will guide the activities of RAMSI in Solomon Islands whose work should be finalised by the end of the year.
Prime Minister Sikua says the framework is RAMSI’s response to a call by his Coalition for National Unity and Rural Advancement Government on the regional intervention force to realign its activities in support for its policies and programmes.
But Dr Sikua says RAMSI’s success depends to a large extent on the close cooperation and support the Government and Solomon Islanders render it, adding the support rendered will be reciprocated.
The close cooperation and support fall in line with the new policy of the CNURA Government that stipulates working together with RAMSI and the region on the basis of dialogue and consultation, rather than being confrontational.
He says since RAMSI’s arrival in Solomon Islands five years ago, it has been re-building and re-strengthening Solomon Islands’ sovereignty.
And he says RAMSI has been engaged in capacity building in the areas of human resources development and the transfer of skills and expertise especially in the Royal Solomon Islands Police.
