John Glenn Calls on Ohioans to “Vote With Confidence” in New PSA

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner announced Friday a public service announcement (PSA) featuring Ohio legend John Glenn urging Ohioans to vote with confidence by absentee ballot or on Election Day. The radio PSA was released on the heels of a report, “Preparing for Success in 2008,” documenting the steps Ohio has taken to address the voting challenges of 2004 and to implement nationally-recognized best practices for 2008.

A copy of the report is available on the Secretary of State's Web site. According to the Secretary of State’s office, John Glenn’s 60 second radio PSA will run on a mix of radio station formats across Ohio. The PSA provides Ohioans with valuable tips regarding absentee voting, voter ID, and backup paper ballots. It also highlights the office's 1-877-VOTEVRI hotline for voters. Ohioans can visit www.myvoteohio.com for information online.

Ohioans are already seeing the success of preparations for the general election. Over 1.46 million Ohioans have requested an absentee ballot for the 2008 general election, demonstrating a high level of interest and confidence in this election.

This is John Glenn urging you to vote with that kind of confidence on Election Day. Now we’re all proud Ohioans and we can take special pride in the hard work of our state and county elections officials, Democrats and Republicans alike, working together.

This year there are lots of ways your voice can be heard. You can vote right now at your county board of elections and skip Election Day lines. You can vote by mail.

But here are a few tips. When you vote, bring your ID, like an Ohio driver’s license, military ID or utility bill. And importantly, you can always vote on a paper ballot whenever and wherever you are, even in counties using touch-screen machines and your vote will be counted. If you’re voting your ballot by mail, be sure it’s postmarked by November 3rd.
