World Future Council to advise International Youth Future Forum in Bonn in preparation for Appeal to UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development

Hamburg/Bad Honnef, January 23: The planet is threatened by climate change and its consequences. How should global education respond to these challenges?

These and other questions will be debated by some 160 young adults from around the world at a three-day forum “Visions, Values, Actions” starting on Friday, January 23 in Bad Honnef near Bonn, Germany. The goal is to compile an appeal to the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development in March in Bonn.

The Hamburg-based World Future Council (WFC) advises decision-makers worldwide on sustainable policies for future generations. For the conference, the organizers have invited five of the WFC’s internationally renowned councilors as panelists, including physicist and philosopher Prof. Hans-Peter Duerr from Germany, economist Prof. Manfred Max-Neef from Chile, and social scientist Dr. Rama Mani from Sri Lanka. The councilors will moderate discussions and workshops on topics ranging from sustainability in this time of financial crisis, social and ecological responsibility, and peace and justice.

During the forum, participants will produce a video appeal to be presented to the UNESCO conference. It will premier as part of other presentations and performances on Sunday, January 25 at 12.30 at the Katholisch-Soziales Institut, Bad Honnef, Germany.

Media representatives are cordially invited to attend. They will have the opportunity to talk to the WFC councillors and other speakers, including Dr. Ignacio Campino, Head of Corporate Sustainability & Citizenship, Deutsche Telekom, and author Andreas Weber (“Bio-Capital”).

The Future Forum is organized by the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the Earth Charter Youth Initiative, the Catholic Social Institute Bad Honnef, Katholische Landjugendbewegung, Ecumenical One World Initiative, and the World Future Council.
