Demonstration In West Bank Village Of Burin
Demonstration In West Bank Village Of Burin
Friday, 13 March 2009 at 12pm: Residents of Burin village will gather to demonstrate against the expansion of the nearby Bracha settlement.
Residents, accompanied by international solidarity activists, will plant 25 trees on land in danger of being annexed by Bracha settlement.
Burin, a village located southeast of Nablus, last held a demonstration on 6 March 2009. Over 100 protesters gathered and were subsequently attacked by Israeli forces and armed settlers. Four individuals were hospitalized for injuries from tear gas or rubber coated steel bullets.
The settlement of Bracha has recently been expanded, further confiscating hundreds of dunums of Burin’s land. Settlers have erected caravans in the area, on legally owned Palestinian land. Members of Burin’s Committee against Settlements say that demonstrations will continue until the illegal settlement of Brach is dismantled and all of Burin’s land is returned.
