Anonymous Harbors Iranian Refugees
FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
Teheran, Iran - With Iran brought to the cusp of a coup d'etat by allegations of election fraud, the internet is stepping up as a community to provide new avenues of communication for those who are trying to make themselves heard from the depths of this turmoil. Anonymous has launched a new forum at iran.whyweprotest.net "to serve as an avenue of communication between Iranians, their families abroad and other interested parties from across the internet." Thus far, the new forum includes sections covering pertinent news stories and maintaining privacy online.
Anonymous is a loose group of individuals originating from online image boards that has since made a name for itself by protesting the Church of Scientology. In discussing why the group chose to create this forum, one member posts that "we just figured we had the servers and the knoweldge." The situation in Iran has been communicated to the rest of the world and continued evolving as quickly as it has in large part due to the creative use of Web 2.0 technologies such as social networking and microblogging. The addition of Anonymous into this mixture may bring further innovation to an already tech-savvy uprising.
