Centrebet Wimbledon: Hewitt $151.00 to $26.00

MEDIA RELEASE
JUL 1, 2009

Centrebet Wimbledon:
Hewitt $151.00 to $26.00, but blows to $2.95 to beat Roddick!

Despite being the biggest firmer on Centrebet in the men’s single’s draw at Wimbledon – tumbling from an opening price of $151.00 down to $26.00 – great Aussie hope Lleyton Hewitt has eased from $2.75 out to $2.95 to beat big-serving American Andy Roddick who has tightened from $1.45 into $1.40!

Centrebet media chief Neil Evans said punters had sounded the “alarm bells” that Hewitt’s inspiring run would finish at the last eight, with a surge of money coming for former finalist Roddick who has shortened two points into $15.00 to win his first Wimbledon crown!

Evans said the money was running heavily Roddick’s way, with nearly $25,000.00 invested on the match, including one Tasmanian client who has wagered $7,000.00 across three bets on the American at $1.45 and $1.42!

“Roddick’s serve on grass ensures he’s a deserved favourite, but 2002 champion Hewitt appears to be getting too big a price,” Evans said. “There has been plenty of money too for the match to go five sets, and surely that’s something in Hewitt’s favour.”

Five-time winner and hot tournament favourite Roger Federer is $1.08 to beat boom serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic ($8.00) tonight, while in the other quarter-finals, Novak Djokovic is a well-backed $1.42 fancy to trump Tommy Haas ($2.85), and British hope Andy Murray is a red-hot $1.09 to end Spanish veteran Juan Carlos Ferrero’s bid!

Federer is the best-backed in outright betting with Centrebet, including bets of $15,000.00 at $1.55, $5,000.00 at $1.60 and an earlier one of $5,000.00 at $1.80, but Hewitt carries the next best weight of money, including long-range wagers of $1,000.00 at $34.00 and a punter who’s had his fingers crossed from the start after outlaying $500.00 at $151.00!

In the women’s singles, Serena Williams has been crunched into $2.05 to win another Wimbledon crown ahead of sister Venus ($2.25), while world number one Dinara Safina ($9.00) and fellow Russian Elena Dementieva ($13.00) appear to be pure semi-final support cards!
