University of Sydney Receives Linkage Grants
University of Sydney researchers will receive a total of
$13,765,569 for 15 projects in the latest round of Linkage
Grants announced today by the Australian Research Council.
Successful grants range from a project on minimising
energy use in computer data centres to a project to develop
ways to control the impact of cane toads on native animals.
Specific projects include:
* A project investigating
the use of Tasmanian seafoods to develop a therapeutic
product to improve the health of people affected by the
herpes simplex virus (HSV) and the human papilloma virus
(HPV) ($480,000, linkage partner Protech Research Pty Ltd)
* A study into the effectiveness of a social skills
training program for autistic children ($192,000, linkage
partner Autism Spectrum Australia.)
* A project
developing computer modelling and visualisation technologies
to help school students understand the science underlining
environmental sustainability, contributing to the national
Digital Education Revolution Initiative ($400,000, linkage
partners, NSW Department of Education and Training, NSW
Department of Environment and Climate Change)
* A
project addressing harm minimisation strategies amongst
university students, who constitute one of the highest
alcohol consuming groups in Australia ($253,338, linkage
partners Association of Heads of Australian University
Colleges and Halls Inc, NSW Health, Department of Human
Services).
* Developing new, more efficient methods
of delivering treatment drugs to the 5.8 million Australians
who suffer from asthma and chronic pulmonary disease
($335,000, linkage partner Synectix Pharmaceutical Solutions
Ltd).
