Conference: Solomon Islands Climate Change Action

A side event at the final climate change negotiations currently underway in Barcelona, Spain - has heard of Solomon Islands' Planning and Action for Climate Change Adaptation.

Speaking at the 'Ecosystem Based Adaptation: Resilient Nature- Resilient People' conference - Environment Permanent Secretary Rence Sore said that ecosystem based approaches to adaptation offer an opportunity to address impacts of climate change.

Mr Sore also showcased community planning for adaptation to climate change in Choiseul Province which involves women, youth and children.

He said community planning in Choiseul is strongly supported by the Lauru Lands Conference and mainstreamed into the Choiseul Provincial development plan.

He said this is the practical climate adaptation that the world should adopt and it comes from a small island developing state.

Mr Sore said climate change adaptation in Choiseul is community driven.

He said the Solomon Islands Government is not only providing policy guidelines but also providing a coordinating role on climate change adaptation with support from International NGO's and development partners.
