Lord Patten: Europe 20 Years After Berlin Wall
Rt. Hon. Lord Christopher Patten of Barnes, Chancellor of Oxford University and former UK Minister, Governor of Hong Kong and European Commissioner, visited New Zealand 27 October - 9 November as guest of the EU Centres Network. He spoke in the four main cities of New Zealand, focusing on Europe, China, the United States and the Global Financial Crisis.
In Auckland and Wellington, Lord Patten was
joined by Professor Dr Michael Zuern, Director, Department
of Transnational Conflict and International Institutions at
the Social Sciences Research Centre in Berlin and Mr George
Cunningham, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the European
Commission Delegation to New Zealand, in a panel discussion
to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the
Berlin Wall and the 5th anniversary of the EU's "Big Bang"
Enlargement. The Wellington event was followed by the Gala
opening of the German Film Festival.
