Awareness Campaign On New Public Service Rules

The Government is prepared to carry out a mass education and awareness campaign on a new set of public service regulations starting in early 2010.

Called the ‘Public Service Code of Conduct’, the regulations are aimed at strengthening the conduct of public servants and to improve service delivery to the public.

The new set of regulations which was compiled in small booklet outlines the responsibilities and work performance requirements of public servants.

The Minister for Public Service, Milner Tozaka, said the code covers five areas, including law and order, respect for people, integrity, diligence and efficiency.

He said the campaign is to ensure that officers adhere to the new rules.

"We're designing an information and education programme for public officers to make sure that they understand the code and the consequences of breaking it. All the officers will be provided with a booklet upon appointment, ministry staff will be trained to deliver code of conduct training programmes in their departments,” Mr Tozaka explained.

The general public will also be made aware of the booklet to understand the conduct and responsibilities public servants.
