CSO, State and Donor Cooperation applauded
Regional Body Applauds CSO, State and Donor Cooperation
The Pacific Islands Association of Non Governmental Organisations (PIANGO) has applauded the Cooperation between CSOs, the State and Donor Partners as witnessed at the Launching of EU assistance to Civil Society in Solomon Islands yesterday. Interim Executive Director, Emele Duituturaga, says this augers well for the type of partnership that is required to address pressing problems in Pacific Island countries. Ms Duituturaga especially commended the Development Exchange Service, the national umbrella NGO Body who is also the National Liaison Unit for PIANGO in the Solomon Islands.
" Most NGOs in the region find it particularly hard to access EU funds and so it is very pleasing to see DSE work closely with the EU to assist NGOs to access EU funds. This can be a model for our other members in the Pacific region", said Ms Duituturaga.
" The thematic areas selected by the EU - Women in Shared Decision Making, Environment, Worker's Rights and Eliminating Violence against Women are leadership issues for our changing Pacific and we as CSO leaders are rising to the challenge of contributing to nation building alongside our respective governments."
"The Government of the Solomon Islands is to be congratulated for their support of the EU's focus on Democracy and Human Rights as a key issue for our region and for working through CSOs. It is especially pleasing to witness the support of the Government conveyed by the Planning Minister Abana in recognising CSOs as important players in the country's development."
In the next few months, PIANGO will be conducting a series of national consultations culminating in a regional meeting called 'Open Forum on CSO Development Effectiveness' which is part of a global CSO consensus process on discussing principles of CSO effectiveness and accountability in response to the Paris Declaration on Aid effectiveness. PIANGO will be working with DSE to hold an Open Forum in Solomon Islands.
