Solomon Islands Ambassador to Roc (Taiwan) Bids Farewell

The Solomon Islands Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan), Beraki Jino, has begun his farewell calls on top Taiwan Government Officials in Taipei this week.

Ambassador Jino who has been the country’s resident Ambassador to Taiwan since 2003 will leave Taipei in two weeks time for a new assignment.

Earlier in the week, Ambassador Jino called on the Speaker of the Legislative Yuan, and Minister of Agriculture of the Council of Agriculture. And yesterday (Wednesday), he called on the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Mr. Ma Ying-jeou.

In his meeting with President Ma, Ambassador Jino, among others, expressed his gratitude for the kind hospitality and friendship of the Government and people of Taiwan accorded to him and family during his term as Ambassador of his country, Solomon Islands. He also expressed gratitude and satisfaction with the level of co-operations which have been developed and further strengthened over the years between the two countries. “Yet there is so much we could do more” Jino added.

President Ma also expressed equal satisfaction on the strong relations between Taiwan and Solomon Islands. He pledged that under his Administration, the bilateral relations between the two countries will be further strengthened in a number of areas including human resources development (broadening of Taiwan Scholarship), cultural exchanges programs, medical and health-care co-operation, humanitarian assistance and in renewable energy sector in order to build a solid foundation into the future.

President Ma also looks forward to visiting Solomon Islands in the near future. He also added that he still has fond memories of the country when he first visited in 1997.

Tomorrow, Ambassador Jino will make a farewell call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Timothy Yang, who had just returned from Honiara a couple of weeks ago. The farewell call on Minister Yang will be followed by an Award Ceremony to confer a medal, Order of the Brilliant Star of Grand Cordon, on Mr. Jino being for recognition of his contribution to the strengthening of ties and co-operation between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Solomon Islands.

Appropriate authorities in Solomon Islands had granted approval for Mr. Jino to accept the award.

Ambassador Jino will make a few more calls and conclude other formalities before finally leaving Taiwan.
