Forbes Lists Savitri Jindal As Richest Woman Of India At $12.2 Billion
Savitri Jindal is the richest woman of India, according to Forbes special report titled “The World's Billionaires” published on March 10.
With her net worth of $12.2 billion, Jindal, 60, ranks 44 from the top on the list.
Widow with nine children, Forbes lists her source of income as steel. Nonexecutive chair of O.P. Jindal Group, she took over as head after her husband’s death. She is also a Congress MLA from Hisar constituency in Haryana. She lives in Delhi and Hisar.
Next Indian woman on the list is Indu Jain, who is at number 354 with a net worth of $2.8 billion. Jain, 73, chairs privately held media conglomerate Bennett, Coleman & Co. Widow with two children, she lives in Delhi.
Congratulating Savitri Jindal on her achievements, acclaimed Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, urged more Indian women to come forward and take business leadership positions. Zed, who is chairperson of Indo-American Leadership Confederation, also asked the national and state governments of India to promote women run businesses.
According to the list, including Jindal, there are nine Indians among 100 top richest persons of the world: Mukesh Ambani (number four with net worth of $29 billion), Lakshmi Mittal (number five with $28.7 billion), Azim Premji (28 with $17 billion), Anil Ambani (36 with $13.7 billion), Shashi & Ravi Ruia (40 with $13 billion), Kushal Pal Singh (74 with $9 billion), Kumar Birla (86 with 7.9 billion), Sunil Mittal (87 with $7.8 billion)
