Tomorrow: CCF launches ‘Enduring Hope’ – a short film to promote racial harmony and tolerance
For the first time, the Citizens’ Constitutional Forum (CCF) has produced a short film to promote racial harmony and tolerance in Fiji.
The 30-minute film is titled ‘Enduring Hope’ and was shot at a rural location in Ba and a squatter settlement near Suva early this year. The film is in the Fijian, Hindi and English languages with sub-titles in English where necessary. The production of the film was funded by the European Union.
The film will be launched on Wednesday, 21 July 2010, 6.30pm – 8pm, at the Marine Studies Lecture Theatre, University of the South Pacific (USP), Laucala Campus, Suva. The launch of the movie is hosted by the School of Government, Development and International Affairs of USP. The media is invited to cover the event.
‘Enduring Hope’ tells the story of two friends, Saula and Babu, who grew up together in Ba. Their friendship is tested by trying times and events in the country. Their friendship survives the test of times as their love for their home and country is greater.
“The film ‘Enduring Hope’ points to the need for us to build bridges across the race and religion divides, and to emphasise the values and aspirations that we have in common,” CCF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Reverend Akuila Yabaki said. “The film also points to the need for security that is common among people of all ethnic groups in Fiji, such as security for land tenure and income.”
Attached is a poster of the movie. An address will be given by CCF Chair Tessa Mackenzie, and director of the film Larry Thomas. A short video on CCF’s activities will be shown, prior to the screening of ‘Enduring Hope’. Rev Yabaki will be available to answer questions from the audience and also to give the Vote of Thanks.
