UN Secretary-General, UN Agency Leaders and Ministers to Discuss Action Agenda on Climate Change

High-level UN officials will hold an open discussion with ministers participating in the Cancun Climate Change Conference on how the UN System, through its programmes and projects, can help countries address climate change and reach their development goals. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will receive the outcome of the discussion and will close the event.

UN participants include Mr. Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary-General, Ms. Christiana Figueres, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, Miss Helen Clark, Administrator, United Nations Development Programme, Mr. Achim Steiner, Executive Director, United Nations Environment Programme, Mr. Kandeh Yumkella, Director-General, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Mr. Michel Jarraud, Secretary-General, World Meteorological Organization and Ms. Inger Andersen, Vice-President, Sustainable Development Network, World Bank.

Ministers participating in the discussion include H.E. Ms. Maria Ignacia Benitez, Minister of Environment, Chile; H.E. Mr. Rachmat Witoelar, President’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, Indonesia; H.E. Ms. Alcinda Antonio de Abreu, Minister of Coordination of Environmental Affairs, Mozambique; H.E. Mr. Mohammed Aslam, Minister of Housing and Environment, Republic of Maldives; and H.E. Mr. Erik Solheim, Minister of the Environment and International Development, Norway.
