Fiji PM Wants Nakorovou Water Issue Resolved

The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has asked authorities to resolve the water issue at Nakorovou Village in Rewa.

On hearing first hand the difficulties experienced by villages, which included water reticulation, Commodore Bainimarama asked that the matter be resolved with prompt efficiency.

At a talanoa session, with the Prime Minister during his visit to the village last weekend, Nakorovou villagers requested for improvements to their water supply system to the village.

Timoci Ukuvakaloa, 74, said the water problem was an ongoing issue that needed to be resolved.

“During the talanoa session with the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, we managed to raise the issue of water supply and he agreed that Government would look into it,” Mr Ukuvakaloa said.

Other issues raised during the discussion were the high water billings despite the low usage of water and the construction of a flood gate that caused flooding in the village.

Village headman, Mr Setoki Ceinaturaga said whenever heavy rain was experienced the village ground turned muddy and swampy.

“The village of Nakorovou is located on a flood prone area and we have been requesting previous Governments to assist us by raising the village,” Mr Ceinaturaga said.

“Today we are thankful to Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and his Government for coming down to this level to discuss the issue with us.”

Nakorovou villagers hosted the Prime Minister to be part of the first anniversary of their historic reconciliation event.
