Tonga: Child Cancer Foundation Collects $25,000
Child Cancer Foundation receives TOP$25,000 from
travelling customers
The Child Cancer Foundation of Tonga received TOP$25,000 from airline company Pacific Blue, collected from donations made by the travelling public.
The Government of Tonga recommended the cancer organisation after it was approached by the airline for a suitable recipient for the donation.
Pacific Blue Marketing and Communications Manager Andrea Heffernan presented the gift to the President of the Child Cancer Foundation of Tonga, Moala Sisifa, on Wednesday 2nd March, 2011.
According to Heffernan, who was in the Tonga this week for the „Eva Mai tourism exchange organised by the Ministry of Tourism, the money was collected on board Pacific Blue flights, from willing customers in recognition of the 2009 tsunami in Samoa and Tonga.
“Were all part of the Pacific Islands and theres a big Tongan community in New Zealand and Australia,” said New Zealand-based Heffernan.
Foundation President Sisifa said she was extremely grateful and humbled:
“The funds will go towards building a resource centre for children with cancer and their families, because at the moment, many of them who need to be treated do not even have the proper facilities to stay.”
The Child Cancer Foundation of Tonga is a charitable organization founded in late 2007 by a group of parents who have lost loved ones to cancer, or have children suffering from cancer.
