Why We Named N4bn Ring Road After Ada-George, By Amaechi

RE-ELECTION seeking Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, has explained why his administration named the N4.00 billion Okrika Ring Road after former Governor Rufus Ada-George, one of his frontline backers for the coming April polls.

AkanimoReports said Amaechi, made the explanation on Tuesday in Port Harcourt when chiefs of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, an Okrika area, paid him a solidarity visit. He said the Okrika Ring Road project was conceived by Ada-George.

Contract for the road project was initially awarded by the Dr. Peter Odili administration, with the contractor allegedly nominated by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) governorship candidate, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, then Secretary to the State Government.

Governor Amaechi regretted that those who were awarded the Ring Road contract and could not execute it are now running for governorship, and telling the people lies that the project was 70 per cent completed, without shame or the fear of God.

He emphasized that the road, which is one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by the state government, was initially abandoned at about 25 per cent work level, before the present administration took over and expanded the scope and completed it.

The governor disclosed that before taking over the Okrika Ring Road, the government invited the contractor who admitted that the job was not up to 30 per cent work level, stressing that “we therefore expanded the scope of the road from 3km to 4.km and added more bridges at the cost of over N4 billion.

Continuing, he said his administration was also undertaking land reclamation in Ogu/Bolo, constructing the Bolo Bridge to link them to the rest of the state by land, emphasizing that the Ogu road would equally be completed.

He intimated the people that the Bolo bridge contractor has assured the government that, if funds are provided, the remaining work on the bridge would be completed in two month’s time, assuring that these projects would be completed within the second term of the administration.

The governor assured them of increased pace of work on the Ogu/Bolo Model Secondary School project to enable the students move to the school, and expressed delight for their support to his government, as well as his re-election bid.

He, however, charged the people to extend the support for him to other PDP candidates, adding that they should make a wise decision to vote the majority party to enable them gain maximally from being in the ruling party.

Earlier, Chief Da-Ockiya Oforibo-Kakaka, who spoke for the people of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, lauded the governor for his visionary leadership qualities as evident in the delivery of people oriented projects and programmes in the state.

The Ogu/Bolo people said, the projects carried out by the present administration in the area such as the bridge project linking Bolo to the rest of Rivers State would forever remain indelible in their hearts, and pledged their continued loyalty and support to the development blueprint of state governor’s visionary administration.

The people expressed their unalloyed support to the governor’s re-election to enable him consolidate on the achievements recorded adding “we believe that your administration is poised to bring about positive changes to the state, and we have come to assure you that we will give our votes to you 100 per cent”.
