Soldiers return to Australia following disciplinary action
Eight soldiers who were returned to Tarin Kot after consuming alcohol during an organised trip to Dubai City on 10 January 2012 have arrived in Australia.
The soldiers from Mentoring Task Force – Three (MTF-3) returned to Multi-National Base – Tarin Kot (MNB-TK) to face disciplinary action under the Defence Force Discipline Act (DFDA), delaying their return to Australia.
The Commanding Officer MTF-3 heard the charges against the eight members, found them guilty and imposed convictions and punishment under the DFDA.
The soldiers departed MNB-TK on 13 January 2012, and arrived back in Australia to their home locations on Sunday, 15 January 2012.
The unauthorised consumption of alcohol in the Middle East Area of Operations is not permitted by deployed ADF personnel.
ADF personnel are well briefed on this policy.
Defence does not tolerate unauthorised alcohol consumption by deployed personnel and those found in breach of this policy can face disciplinary and administrative action.
Defence must also take into
account its relationship with our host country and their
expectations of the ADF's standards of
behaviour.
